The natural world inspires my drawings and illustrations, just like my prints. I’m also fascinated by the contrast between light and dark.
One of my earliest memories is using my mum’s pastels to draw our dogs or to trace around my shadow on the paper in front of me. I still use pastel to some extent in many of my drawings.
I love mixing different media to try to achieve the idea I have in mind, or simply to see what happens. But I usually find myself returning to a combination of pastel, pencil crayon, watercolour (paint, pens, pencils…) and ink.
Just as with printmaking, I’m trying out new media and techniques to expand my knowledge and discover what I can create. With a tendency to get bogged down in detail, I’m also hoping to find my more expressive side.
(I sometimes share my sketchbook pages over on Instagram if you’d like to see some of these experiments.)
